About the workshop

The workshop was organised by Manipur Technical University in a view to uplift the importance and the roles of cryptology and the necessity of understanding the basics of cryptology in day-to-day life. We hope the workshop helped the students, faculties of mathematics, physics, computer science and other engineering subjects get the essence of cryptology, including network and information security. Eminent resource persons from various institutes like IITs, ISIs, and NISER delivered talks on cryptology and its applications.

Objectives

The basic purpose of the workshop is to expose the students, faculties of mathematics and engineering to basics of cryptology, including network security and information security, and other related issues and applications. The subject of cryptology, i.e., the study of mathematical techniques related to aspects of information security and cryptanalysis, is developing rapidly and becoming a part in day-to-day life viz. in information science, particularly in network, banking, email and information, etc. So, there is a need to understand the underlying fundamentals of cryptology and its applications.

Workshop Outcome

From this workshop, the participants learn

  • the basics of cryptology
  • history of using ciphers
  • its importance and uses
  • its role in day-to-day life
  • public key cryptosystems, like RSA
  • new challenges and open problems in cryptology
  • the importance and the role of number theory in cryptology
  • applications of number theory in cryptanalysis, and other related areas
  • applications of large prime numbers in cryptography
  • applications of different methods of factorization
Future Action

We would like to organize such workshops on Cryptology to explore more applications of mathematics in cryptology.
