The Disaster Management Cell (DMC) at Manipur Technical University is a pioneering initiative established to address Northeast India’s growing disaster risks. As a founding member of the Indian Universities Network for Disaster Risk Reduction (IUINDRR-NIDM), we lead in disaster education, research, and community preparedness.

Key Organizations and Resources:
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)
The apex body for disaster management in India, headed by the Prime Minister, responsible for setting policies, plans, and guidelines. Setting up of NDMA and the creation of an enabling environment for institutional mechanisms at the State and District levels is mandated by the Disaster Management Act, 2005. NDMA is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management. India envisions the development of an ethos of Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness and Response.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is a specialized force in India, constituted under the Ministry of Home Affairs, responsible for rapid and effective disaster response to both natural and man-made disasters.
State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA)
Responsible for implementing DRR measures and policies at the state level, tailoring them to local contexts and perils.
State Disaster Response Force
SDRF stands for State Disaster Response Force, a state-level force trained to respond to natural and man-made disasters, similar to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) but at a state level.
National Institute of Disaster Management
National Institute of Disaster Management, a premier Indian institution under the Ministry of Home Affairs, mandated to promote capacity building in disaster risk management through training, research, and policy advocacy.

National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering
The National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE), located at IIT Kanpur, India, is a center focused on collecting, maintaining, and disseminating information and resources related to earthquake engineering to mitigate earthquake disasters.
India Meteorological Department (IMD)
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) plays a critical role in disaster risk reduction by providing early warnings, forecasting, and climate data to mitigate the impacts of hydro-meteorological disasters. Under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), under the Government of India.
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 is a non-binding agreement adopted by UN member states in 2015, aiming to substantially reduce disaster risk and losses globally by 2030, encompassing natural, man-made, and related hazards.
UNESCO is a key player in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), assisting member states in enhancing their capacity for disaster preparedness, prevention, response, recovery, and resilience-building. Through its focus on education, science, culture, and communication, UNESCO drives risk awareness, promotes preventive measures, and strengthens learning and capacity development in DRR. By bridging the natural and social sciences, education, and cultural exchange, UNESCO works to build more resilient societies capable of withstanding and recovering from disasters.
United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has a big ambition: to help decision makers across the globe better understand and act on risk. At UNDRR, we envision a world where disasters no longer threaten the well-being of people and the future of the planet.
Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 is a 15-year global agreement adopted by UN member states in 2015, aiming to reduce disaster risks and losses in lives, livelihoods, and assets by strengthening social and economic resilience to disasters.
University Grants Commission (UGC)
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has finalized the selection of course coordinators for a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Management” (DRRM) to be delivered on the SWAYAM platform, marking a step towards enhancing digital learning and expanding access to quality education in disaster risk management.
