- About the event: Manipur Technical University observed World Environment Day with a tree plantation drive and an awareness lecture. Saplings were planted on campus with support from the Horticulture and Forest Departments. Professor Lal Bihari from Manipur University delivered a talk on “Be the Change: Break the Chain – Plastic and Water Pollution.” The event aimed to promote sustainable practices among students, staff, and outsider.
- Aim and Objective: The World Environment Day programme aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage
sustainable practices among the university community and the public. The objectives included sensitizing students, staff, and guests about the harmful effects of plastic and water pollution, promoting tree plantation to restore ecological balance, inspiring individual responsibility towards environmental protection, and engaging both the academic community and local stakeholders in meaningful actions for a greener and cleaner environment. - Coordinator’s Statement: It was a privilege to coordinate the World Environment Day programme at Manipur Technical
University. The enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, staff, and invited guests made the event a great success. Through the tree plantation drive and the insightful lecture by Professor Lal Bihari, we aimed to inspire collective action against plastic and water pollution. I extend my sincere thanks to all supporting departments and organizations for their valuable contributions. Let us continue to work together towards a greener and more sustainable future.
- Event Outcome: The World Environment Day programme successfully raised awareness on environmental issues, particularly plastic and water pollution. Over 500 saplings were planted on the university campus with active participation from students, faculty, staff, and invited guests. The lecture by Professor Lal Bihari enriched participants’ understanding of
sustainable practices and individual responsibility. The event fostered a sense of environmental stewardship among the attendees and strengthened collaboration with government departments and local organizations. - Acknowledgment: We sincerely thank Professor Lal Bihari from the Department of Life Sciences, Manipur University, for his inspiring and informative lecture. We are grateful to the Registrar, Y. Ramananda Nongmeikapam, for his continued support and guidance. Special appreciation goes to the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation and the Forest Department, Government of Manipur, for providing the saplings. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Students for Development Organization, NSS volunteers, Eco Club MTU, faculty members, staff, and students of Manipur Technical University for their active participation and collective effort in making the event a success.
