About the event

One Day Workshop on “Hydro-meteorological Data Management” in Collaboration with Water Resources Engineering Department, Govt. of Manipur

A brief note on the subject matter or topic

Revamp knowledge of Water Resources Engineering. Exposure to Hydro-meteorological Data Management in the field of Civil Engineering. Insights on projects taken up by Water Resources Engg. Dept., Govt. of Manipur

Aim and Objective

  • To bring together experts from various fields to discuss the challenges and opportunities in hydro-meteorological data management.
  • To provide a platform for participants to share their experiences, ideas, and best practices in hydro-meteorological data management.
  • To enhance the understanding of the importance of hydro-meteorological data management for water resources management, weather forecasting, and climate change mitigation.
  • To explore various aspects of hydro-meteorological data management, including data collection, processing, storage, analysis, and dissemination.
  • To identify new opportunities and solutions for managing hydro-meteorological data effectively.
  • To discuss the latest developments in the field, such as the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other advanced technologies.

Coordinator’s Statement

While classroom learning is essential, it is not enough to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to manage hydro-meteorological data effectively. In the modern-day, technology is rapidly advancing, and there is a need for professionals to stay updated with the latest tools and techniques.

Moreover, hydro-meteorological data management is a field that requires practical exposure and fieldwork experience. By working in the field, students and professionals can gain hands-on experience and learn how to collect, process, analyze, and disseminate data effectively.

By combining classroom knowledge with practical exposure and fieldwork experience, students and professionals can gain a comprehensive understanding of hydro-meteorological data management and be better equipped to tackle the challenges in this field.

Future Action/ Follow – up Action Plan

i. Continue collaboration with the Water Resources Engineering Department, Govt. of Manipur, to organize more workshops, training programs, and fieldwork opportunities for students and professionals in hydro-meteorological data management.

ii. Explore the possibility of providing students and professionals with access to the equipment and devices available at the Water Resources Engineering Department. This could include devices such as rain gauges, stream gauges, DGPS, and weather stations, which can be used for fieldwork and data collection.

iii. Work towards providing students of Manipur Technical University (MTU) with access to the facilities of the Hydro-meteorological Data Management Centre. This could include access to data storage and analysis software, which can help students gain practical experience in managing hydro-meteorological data.

iv. Organize follow-up training programs and workshops to help students and professionals stay updated with the latest developments in hydro meteorological data management. These programs could cover topics such as advanced data analysis techniques, new technologies and tools, and best practices in data management.

Event Outcomes with concluding remarks

The workshop provided a comprehensive understanding of the importance of hydro-meteorological data management for water resources management, weather forecasting, and climate change mitigation. It provided a platform for participants to share their experiences, ideas, and best practices in hydro-meteorological data management. It facilitated networking and collaboration among participants, promoting the exchange of knowledge and best practices in hydro-meteorological data management. It provided participants with practical exposure to the tools and techniques used in hydro-meteorological data management. The workshop resulted in the development of a follow-up action plan to continue the momentum and support the growth of hydro-meteorological data management in Manipur. This plan includes collaborations with the Water Resources Engineering Department, providing access to equipment and facilities, and organizing follow-up training programs and workshops.

Overall, the workshop was a success, providing participants with a deeper understanding of hydro meteorological data management and facilitating networking and collaboration in this field. The outcomes of this workshop will contribute to the growth and development of hydro meteorological data management in Manipur.
