An Industrial Visit to the 132/33 kV Substation at Yurembam was organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, Manipur Technical University, on 8th May 2025.
About the event
The Department of Electrical Engineering, MTU, organized a one-day industrial visit to the 132/33 kV Substation at Yurembam. The visit comprises a team of 55 members (No. of students – 39 and attendants, technicians, and faculty – 16)
Highlights
Date: 8th May, 2025
Time: 10:00 am to 3:30 pm
Venue: 132/33 kV Substation at Yurembam, Manipur
Mode of the event: Industrial Visit
Participants: 6th and 8th Semester Students of the EE Department
Aim and Objective
The field visit to the 132/33 kV Substation at Yurembam was aimed at providing students with practical exposure to the operation and infrastructure of a high-voltage electrical substation. The primary objective was to enhance their understanding of power transmission and distribution systems by observing real-time processes and equipment. During the visit, students had the opportunity to study the layout of the substation and the functioning of key components such as power transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, current and potential transformers, and busbars. The visit also focused on familiarizing students with the procedures for voltage step-down and its distribution to local networks. Additionally, the students gained insights into the safety measures and maintenance protocols essential for the efficient and secure operation of a substation. This field experience served as a bridge between classroom learning and real-world engineering practices, reinforcing theoretical knowledge through hands-on observation.
