The Institution’s Innovation Council of Manipur Technical University successfully conducted a One day “Awareness program on promoting Bamboo Green Gold: through Innovation and Value Chain Management in Manipur” in collaboration with South Asia Bamboo Foundation (SABF) on 10th Dec 2021 chaired by the Vice–Chancellor, MTU.

During the workshop, the speakers pointed out the following details:
- Bamboo as alternative material in Civil engineering structures
- Use of bamboo for many common household items such as kitchenware, decorative items etc.
- Treatment of Bamboo for long–term usage in Civil Engineering structures
- Work carried out in Bamboo charcoal method in National Cheung Cheng University, Taiwan
- Possible innovations using bamboo
- Bamboo import and export routes in Manipur and other states
- Classifications of local bamboo for civil engineering structures
- Various activities on Bamboo charcoal being taken up at National Chung Cheng University,Taiwan
- Introduction of BAMTECH mobile application for bamboo technology courses and information
- Introduction of various bamboo based projects at National Bamboo mission, Govt. of Manipur
- Highlighted various types of traditional Manipuri houses of different tribes made with bamboo
- Highlighted the modern bamboo housing technique used in South-East Asia especially in Thailand and Indonesia.
Outcome
The South Asia Bamboo Foundation in collaboration with Manipur Technical University is in the process of establishing a Bamboo technology incubation centre under the guidance and support of National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan. An MoU between MTU and NCCU, Taiwan is underway. Further, the National Bamboo Mission, Govt. of Manipur, under the supervision of the incubator to provide internship to the students of MTU.
