- Introduction
Manipur Technical University (MTU) organised an Expert Talk on “Taxation System in India and Career Opportunities in Ministry of Finance” on 31st August 2026 at 1:00 PM at Room No. 417, AIC Block, MTU. The programme was organised with the objective of providing students and faculty members with an understanding of the taxation system in India and creating awareness about various career opportunities available in the Ministry of Finance and its associated departments.
- Dignitaries and Resource Persons
The programme was graced by Prof. Wahengbam Chandbabu Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur Technical University, as the President and Dr. Kshetrimayum Imokanta Singh, MFS, Chief Finance Officer, Manipur Technical University as the Guest of Honour.
The Chief Guest was Shri Nilambar Saha, Assistant Commissioner, CGST Imphal Commissionerate, while Shri Arambam Dhaneshor Singh, Superintendent of CGST Imphal, delivered the expert talk as the Speaker.
- Participation
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the University community. Approximately 80 students, 10 faculty members and 20 staffs, making a total of around 110 participants, attended the programme.

- Proceedings of the Programme
The programme commenced with a formal welcome and introduction of the dignitaries and the resource person. The expert session focused on the Indian taxation system, its structure and functioning, and the role of various authorities under the Ministry of Finance.
Shri Arambam Dhaneshor Singh, Superintendent of CGST Imphal, provided valuable insights into the Different types of Taxes (Direct and Indirect Tax), Goods and Services Tax (GST), its implementation, compliance mechanisms and the role of tax authorities. He also highlighted the importance of taxation in national development and financial administration.
A significant part of the session was devoted to career opportunities in the Ministry of Finance and related government services. Students were apprised of various career avenues, recruitment pathways, required qualifications and the skills needed to pursue careers in the taxation and financial administration sectors.
The interaction proved particularly useful for students as it provided them with practical exposure to the functioning of the taxation system and opportunities for a career in government financial services. The session was followed by an interactive discussion, during which participants raised questions and sought clarification on taxation, GST and career opportunities.
- Outcome
The Expert Talk successfully created awareness among students and faculty members regarding the Indian taxation system and career prospects in the Ministry of Finance. The interaction with officers from the CGST Imphal Commissionerate provided participants with practical knowledge and a better understanding of taxation administration and government career opportunities.
The programme also served as an effective platform for academic and professional interaction between Manipur Technical University and the CGST Imphal Commissionerate.
- Conclusion
The programme concluded on a positive note with appreciation expressed to the dignitaries, resource person, faculty members, students and all those involved in organising the event. The enthusiastic participation of approximately 110 members of the University community reflected the relevance and importance of the topic.
