The Ph.D. Programme at Manipur Technical University, Imphal, is designed to promote advanced research, innovation, and scholarly contribution in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering, Technology, Management, Humanities, and allied areas. The programme aims to develop competent researchers who can undertake original, ethical, and socially relevant research. It is conducted in accordance with the applicable rules, regulations, and ordinances of Manipur Technical University and the guidelines prescribed by the University Grants Commission, as amended from time to time.
Programme History
The Ph.D. Programme of Manipur Technical University was introduced from the Academic Session 2025-26 to strengthen the research culture of the University and to provide a structured platform for advanced study in technical, scientific, management, and allied disciplines. Since its introduction, the programme has emphasized research training, ethical scholarship, interdisciplinary inquiry, and the development of scholars capable of contributing to academic, technological, and societal advancement.
Programme Overview
The programme is offered in Regular Mode in the departments and disciplines notified by the University from time to time. Eligible candidates carry out research under approved Research Supervisors.The programme includes course work, research methodology, research and publication ethics, review of literature, periodical progress presentations, thesis preparation, thesis evaluation, and viva-voce examination as per University norms.

Eligibility
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree or an equivalent qualification in the relevant or allied discipline from a recognized University/Institution, with the minimum marks or CGPA prescribed in the admission notification. Relaxation in eligibility, wherever applicable, shall be as per the norms of the Government of Manipur, UGC, and Manipur Technical University.
Admission Procedure
Admission shall be made through the process notified by Manipur Technical University. The process may include scrutiny of applications, a written entrance test wherever applicable, personal interview-cum-presentation, recommendation by the concerned Departmental Board/Committee, and approval by the competent authority. Candidates exempted from the entrance test shall be considered strictly as per the applicable rules and the admission notification.
Course Work & Research Progress
All admitted scholars shall complete the prescribed course work before proceeding to full-fledged research work. Scholars shall submit progress reports and make research presentations at regular intervals. The Ph.D. thesis shall embody original research work and shall be submitted in the prescribed format. The award of the degree shall be subject to successful thesis evaluation and viva-voce examination.
