1. Background and Introduction
Manipur Technical University (MTU) has consistently focused on nurturing both academic excellence and holistic student development. The University’s Liberal Learning Course (LLC) lets faculty members teach hobbies and life-skills like Photography, Music, Interior Design, and Stress Management, ensuring students are exposed to diverse forms of learning beyond the classroom.
MTU’s collaboration with Nikon India dates to August 2017, when the first Nikon India Photography Workshop was held successfully at the University. After one and a half years of renewed communication and coordination with Nikon India, MTU hosted its second Nikon India Photography Workshop and Photowalk on 15th September 2025.
The programme was organized at the Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou, Imphal, followed by a photowalk at ISKCON Temple, Imphal, combining professional training with hands- on field practice.
2. Objectives of the Workshop
- To provide students and faculty with hands-on professional training in photography
- To strengthen industry-academia collaboration between MTU and Nikon India.
- To foster creativity and innovation as part of holistic education.
- To encourage students to pursue hobbies as avenues for stress management, creativity, and career opportunities.
- To celebrate Engineers’ Day (15th September) in a creative and meaningful way.

A total of 46 participants joined the event:

4. Programme Structure and Activities
a) Inaugural Session
The inaugural remarks highlighted MTU’s ongoing engagement with Nikon India since 2017,mand the importance of skill-based learning for holistic student growth.
b) Technical Training Session
Nikon India trainers conducted technical sessions covering:
- DSLR & Mirrorless Camera Operations
- Exposure Triangle: ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed
- Advanced Composition & Lighting Techniques
- Creative Storytelling through Photography
- Practical tips on image editing and post-processing
c) Photowalk at ISKCON Temple
Participants applied their learning during a guided photowalk at ISKCON Temple, Imphal, photographing architecture, people, and cultural elements. Trainers provided live mentoring and personalized feedback.
d) Certificate Distribution
All participants were awarded Nikon-branded Certificates of Participation, recognizing their successful completion of the workshop and photowalk. The certificates served as professional recognition of their learning experience.
e) Engineers’ Day Celebration
The programme concluded with reflections from trainers and participants, followed by a cake- cutting ceremony to celebrate Engineers’ Day 2025, adding a festive touch to the academic and creative engagement.

6. Conclusion
The One-Day Photography Workshop and Photowalk, conducted in collaboration with Nikon India, marked a milestone for Manipur Technical University. Coming eight years after the first Nikon India workshop in August 2017, this second edition was the outcome of 18 months of dedicated communication and coordination with Nikon India.
The workshop successfully blended technical learning with creativity, offering participants not only hands-on experience but also professional recognition through Nikon-branded certificates.
The celebration of Engineers’ Day 2025 alongside the event further underscored MTU’s commitment to fostering innovation, creativity, and holistic development in its students.
