On the 26th of May 2022, under the leadership of the Vice-chancellor, Manipur Technical University, the Minister of Science and Technology, Shri Th. Biswajit Singh officially announced the opening of the Intellectual Property Right (IPR)- Cell of Manipur Technical University and One day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights. The events were organised in presence of Shri Th. Basanta Kumar Singh, Minister Education and LA, Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram, Vice-Chancellor of MTU, Shri Devesh Deval, IAS Member Secretary, MASTEC Commissioner (S&T), Govt. of Manipur, Mangsatabam Harekrishna, IAS Commissioner (Education), Govt. of Manipur, Dr Yashawant Dev Panwar, Head of Patent Facilitation Centre, Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department Of Science & Technology, Government of India, Dr B P Singh, Former Chairman In-Charge and Technical Member-Patents (IPAB ), Dr L. Minaketan Singh, Director and official staff of MASTEC along with faculties, staff and students of B.Tech (five branches) and MBA programme, MTU. Over 250 students and 16 startup beneficiaries of the MTU Incubation Cell sponsored by the State Planning Department participated in the function.
The IPR cell MTU is opened with the initiative of the Patent Information Centre (PIC), MANIPUR SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL (MASTEC), Science & Technology Complex, Takyelpat, Imphal under the supervision of the Patent Facilitation Centre (PFC), Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.
The One-day workshop on IPR was also held and chaired by Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram, Vice-Chancellor, MTU. Dr Yashawant Dev Panwar, Head, Patent Facilitation Centre-TIFAC, Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India elaborately spoke on the Topic “Harnessing Intellectual Property in Technical Institutions” and Dr B P Singh, Former Chairman In-Charge and Technical Member Patents (IPAB), gave a talk on the Topic “Patenting System in India and Abroad” and interacted with the participants for over 2 hours.
