About the workshop
In today’s world of science and technology, every powerful nation is trying to develop new tools and ideas for space exploration that can help mankind in one way or the other. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with an insightful vision of harnessing space technology for national development, is pursuing space science research and planetary exploration. In this workshop, eminent scientists from two important centres for space science and technology, the Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad and the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), Umiam (Meghalaya) under the Department of Space, Govt. of India, would deliver expert talks. The target audience for this programme are the undergraduates of the Manipur Technical University.
Objectives
The following topics will be covered in this programme:
– Remote Sensing: Overview of EO Sensors & Applications
– Cryosphere and Climate Change
– Vegetation Dynamics
– Advances in Earth and Planetary Sciences
– Research and Training Opportunities at ISRO
– RS & GIS applications status & plan ahead for NE India
– Use of UAV in remote sensing
Future Action
We would like to organize such workshops to impart the technical knowhow to the students as well to expose the students to industrial experts.
Workshop Outcome
The workshop was attended for the undergraduate students of the University. They could learn from this workshop the fundamentals of satellite remote sensing in a nutshell. Various applications of earth-observing satellites in remote sensing have been explained meticulously by the learned speakers. Special emphasis on the applicability of remote sensing in the North-East region was also mentioned. Research opportunities (through Space Technology Cells and RESPOND) and employability.
