Mei Lak Ae (MLA) Club
Story Behind the Name of the Club:
Before the introduction of the prepaid plan in Manipur (2014), the condition for the availability of electricity was under very bad conditions. In the Imphal municipal region, there is a roster system and even though electricity is not available for four days a week. But in the rural region availability of electricity is less than 30 hours a week. Moreover, the frequent power cut is also one major problems in every region of Manipur. But the beauty of the people of Manipur is that even if there is a frequent power cut (electricity is not available) for days, everyone feels happy whenever electricity comes. When the electricity came, not only the small kids but also older persons all shouted “Mei Lak Ae” (electricity has come). Remembering those days, the club is named after the happy slogan “MEI LAK AE”.
Aim of the Club:
- To enhance the student performance by increasing participation in academic activities with unity in diversity by helping each other.
The Mei Lak AE (Technical (Khutsem) Department) club will have a transformative impact on society through continual innovation in education, research, creativity, and entrepreneurship.
To create a transformative educational experience for students focused on deep disciplinary knowledge, problem-solving, leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, and personal health and well-being.

Under the Club MEI LAK AE, sub-departments are formed
1. Departmental Library by MLA Club:
Rules and Regulations:
- One Book One Student.
- A student has to lend a book in order to be a part of this library.
- Students should keep their books in the library for 5 days a week.
- A student can borrow two books at once for two days.
- If a student is unable to return a book due to a holiday or social issue, then the student should return the book on the next working day.
- If a student fails to return a book, then he will be banned for two weeks from borrowing books except his /her own.
- If any damage is made in the book during custodian of a student, then he/she has to pay the MRP of that book within two working days.
- If a student is unable to give the MRP of a damaged book, then he/she will be removed from the Club.
- Departmental Library will be open from 12:30 pm to 01:00 pm on all working days.
- The decision of the Chairperson will be final in all cases.
2. Technical (Khutsem) Department by MLA Club:
Rules and Regulations:
- Every member of this club is responsible for collecting unworking LED and must deposit it into the Club.
- Every member must have contact with their relatives or localities, or local clubs or organizations for collecting unworking LEDs and to enhance when resold the repaired LEDs.
- Every member who is involved in any section must communicate and help each other.
- Every section must have a team leader to organize the section and the department.
- The department must have a weekly review meeting with all the team leaders and the members.
- Members are responsible for pointing out the problem and discuss to have the solution in the weekly review meeting.
In the Technical Department, many sub-sections are divided
- Technician Section
- Marketing Section
- Management Section
- Research and Development Section
Members involved in these sections have different tasks. Members of the Technical Section are responsible for the main technical Activities, members of the Marketing Section are responsible for marketing purposes, the Management Section is responsible for the Management of the organization, and the Research and Development Section is responsible for the new project development activities. All the members of the club will perform technical activities.

Mei Lak Ae Club Activities
1. Blood Donation Camp
Mei Lak Ae Club, EED, MTU successfully organised its 1st Blood Donation Camp as part of Fenomenon’22, in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and RIMS Blood Banks, Imphal. The event was supported by the Lions Club of Imphal Global & Central, along with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit I & II, MTU, held at the Manipur Technical University Campus, Takyel, on 4th and 5th July. The camp aimed to promote social responsibility among students and contribute to saving lives through voluntary blood donation.
2. Technical Skill Session: MS Word & PowerPoint

Mei Lak Ae Club organised a Technical Session on Microsoft Office Word on June 8th, Wednesday, at Room 101, Manipur Technical University. The session aimed to enhance students’ skills in using Microsoft Word for academic and professional purposes. Participants were encouraged to seize this opportunity to learn and upgrade their proficiency in document creation and formatting. |
3. Technical Session on MS Office PowerPoint

Mei Lak Ae Club organised a Technical Session on MS Office PowerPoint on 15th June 2022, from 4 PM to 5 PM. The session was conducted by Sir Haobam Jaillendro Khuman, aiming to enhance students’ skills in creating impactful presentations using PowerPoint. |
4. Logo Design Competition

Mei Lak Ae Club organised a Logo Design Competition, inviting students to create a logo that reflects the club’s identity and strength. The winning logo will become the official club logo, and the designer’s name will be featured as part of the recognition. |
5. Video Making Competition
Mei Lak Ae Club hosted a Video Making Competition with the theme “Showcase Manipur Technical University.” The competition encouraged participants to showcase their creativity by highlighting the university’s vibrant and dynamic spirit through video.
6. Alumni Motivational Talk

Mei Lak Ae Club organised an Alumni Motivational Talk by K Bidyabati Devi, a proud alumna of the Electrical Engineering Department, MTU. She shared her inspiring journey and strategies on how to prepare effectively for the GATE exam, motivating students to aim higher in their academic and career pursuits. The session provided valuable tips, resources, and personal experiences that helped students gain confidence and clarity towards cracking competitive exams. |
7. Expert Talk on “Future Trends in EV Technology” and GATE Achievers’ Felicitation Program
The Department of Electrical Engineering successfully conducted an expert talk on “Future Trends in EV Technology” in collaboration with Mei Lak Ae Club on 22nd March 2024. The session was delivered by Ms. Lourembam Ranjita Devi, who shared valuable insights on emerging developments, innovations, and future prospects in electric vehicle technology. The event also included a celebratory program to recognize and appreciate the department’s GATE qualifiers for their achievements. Faculty members, students, and staff actively participated, making the program both informative and inspiring.
8. Social Service Drive: Clean Energy, Clean Spaces

Mei Lak Ae Club, EE Department, MTU, organised a Clean Energy, Clean Spaces awareness and cleanliness drive on 30th September 2024 at the MTU Campus. The event aimed to promote environmental responsibility by encouraging students and staff to adopt clean energy practices and maintain clean surroundings. The activity fostered a sense of community participation and highlighted the importance of sustainable living on campus. |
9. Line Follower Event (Fenomenon 2025)

As part of Fenomenon 2025, the Department of Electrical Engineering, in collaboration with the Mei Lak Ae Club, organised the Line Follower competition on 29th April 2025 at the New Block, MTU. The event challenged participants to design and build robots that could accurately follow lines of varying colours, widths, and patterns. The competition enhanced participants’ skills in robotics, teamwork, and sensor calibration while offering prizes and recognition |
10. Electrical Puzzle Event (Fenomenon 2025)
The Electrical Puzzle event was conducted on 29th April 2025 as part of Fenomenon 2025, organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering in collaboration with the Mei Lak Ae Club. This event provided a competitive and fun platform, encouraging participants to solve interactive electrical puzzles, enhancing critical thinking and understanding of core concepts. It aimed to foster creativity, innovation, and the application of theoretical knowledge to real-world electrical challenges.
