from Departments for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce &
Industry, Govt. of India.

Session Objectives

1. To set up and maintain the services for researchers, Faculty members and students for effective commercial utilization of intellectual property generated at University in the interests of all concerned and to oversee the fair distribution of the returns accruing as an outcome of the patent in accordance with the policy and its amendments.
2. To promote safeguarding of the intellectual property interests of all those who are involved in the creation of intellectual property at the University.
3. To develop the environment of freedom for research & development, the discovery of new knowledge & innovation in order to achieve the educational mission of Manipur Technical University, Imphal.

Session Outcomes

1. Students were taught on how IPR restricts copying others ideas and how this will help the development of new ideas for the betterment of the society.
2. Students learnt how IPR provides total control over a new innovation and its creator. They were also given a platform to discuss how small innovations influence societies at large and how they should indulge in innovating and patenting ideas that will be useful for all the classes of individuals in the society.

Aim and Objective

The objective is to provide exposure to students about practical working environment and to provide students a good opportunity to gain full awareness about industrial practices. It also aimed to understand the technical difficulties faced and limitations of existing technology to open up scope of research in the students’ minds.

Coordinator’s Statement

Simply studying theories, solving problems and designing on paper become insufficient if it is impossible to visualize and recreate. Visiting such projects help the students to actually see and observe what they have learned from the books and classes.

Future Action/ Follow – up Action Plan

Visit to other Hydraulic Stuctures; training on software related to Hydraulic Modeling and Design of Hydraulic Structures; Visit to other major projects on water conduits.

Event Outcomes with concluding remarks

The event saw participation by students of Manipur Technical University whose knowledge on engineering subjects highly got improved as seen in the reports submitted by them.

8th International day of Yoga

8th International day of Yoga

               The 8th International day of Yoga was held on 21st June 2022 at Auditorium of Govt. Polytechnic. The event was attended by the Hon’ble VC of MTU, staff of MTU and students of MTU with the guidance of a well experience Yoga Instructor Ms. Sharungbam Rashree Chanu various yoga asanas and pranayamas were performed and the benefits of each of them were explained. The instructor also explained the why asanas as well as the pranayamas to be must be given equal importance. The event concluded with a speech form Hon’ble VC of MTU explaining the importance of yoga in our modern lifestyle.

               After the yoga session, at painting competition on the theme “Yoga for Humanity” was held at the same venue. The competition registered a total of 21 participants. The competition witnessed the fine arts skills of the students of MTU. The winners of the painting competition are:

2nd Wilson Thangjam, 2nd sem EE (2101EE0227)

3rd Swatisri Thingbaijam, 4th sem CSE (2001CS0212)

The winners of the competition were handed over their prize and certificate by the Hon’ble VC of MTU.

Basic Computer (Hardware and Software) Skill Development Workshop conducted by Department of Computer Science and Engineering

On 17th June 2022, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Manipur Technical University conducted a Basic Computer Skill Development workshop for Government Higher Secondary Schools of Manipur. The workshop was conducted by the 6th semester students of the department as part of their continuous assessment for school students who have little or no prior experience with computer and those who needed help in understanding the fundamental hardware and software skills in an interactive classroom environment. Around 80 students participated in the workshop and learned to access, create, save and manage documents, presentations, spread sheets using Microsoft Office applications and also demystified terminology of hardware components. Through the workshop, the school students were able to understand and learn the following.

  1. Create, save, share and format documents using Microsoft word by applying pre-designed styles, formatting texts with colours and fonts, inserting pictures and working with bullets, indents, line spacing and tables.
  2. Understand spreadsheet functionality to create spreadsheet in Microsoft excel, inserting formulae perform calculations, charts and shortcuts.
  3. Creating presentation, designing with text, font, bullets or numbered list, images, animations and transitions.
  4. Understand various hardware components such as motherboard, hard drive, RAM, CPU, power supply, cooling system, video, sound and network cards and device connecting ports such as USB, Ethernet, Serial, game port , VDA etc.

Technical Quiz Competition Organized By The Department Of Electronics And Communication Engineering

The Technical Quiz Competition was successfully organized on 27th May 2022 at 3 pm in the Department of Electronics & Communication. This Competition was intended in helping the students to learn more about the electronics and communication engineering as the questions were asked related to semiconductor devices, digital electronics, signal & systems and communication. It is also one of the good ways to test as well as to improve one’s knowledge in the mentioned domain. Total 30 students have participated in the competition and after examining by the committee of the Technical Quiz Competition, the winners are as follows:

Opening of IPR Cell-MTU & workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) with the support of Patent Information Centre (PIC) of Manipur Science & Technology Council (MASTEC)

On the 26th of May 2022, under the leadership of the Vice-chancellor, Manipur Technical University, the Minister of Science and Technology, Shri Th. Biswajit Singh officially announced the opening of the Intellectual Property Right (IPR)- Cell of Manipur Technical University and One day workshop on Intellectual Property Rights. The events were organised in presence of Shri Th. Basanta Kumar Singh, Minister Education and LA, Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram, Vice-Chancellor of MTU, Shri Devesh Deval, IAS Member Secretary, MASTEC Commissioner (S&T), Govt. of Manipur, Mangsatabam Harekrishna, IAS Commissioner (Education), Govt. of Manipur, Dr Yashawant Dev Panwar, Head of Patent Facilitation Centre, Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department Of Science & Technology, Government of India, Dr B P Singh, Former Chairman In-Charge and Technical Member-Patents (IPAB ), Dr L. Minaketan Singh, Director and official staff of MASTEC along with faculties, staff and students of B.Tech (five branches) and MBA programme, MTU. Over 250 students and 16 startup beneficiaries of the MTU Incubation Cell sponsored by the State Planning Department participated in the function.

The IPR cell MTU is opened with the initiative of the Patent Information Centre (PIC), MANIPUR SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL (MASTEC), Science & Technology Complex, Takyelpat, Imphal under the supervision of the Patent Facilitation Centre (PFC), Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

The One-day workshop on IPR was also held and chaired by Dr Bhabeswar Tongbram, Vice-Chancellor, MTU.  Dr Yashawant Dev Panwar, Head, Patent Facilitation Centre-TIFAC, Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India elaborately spoke on the Topic “Harnessing Intellectual Property in Technical Institutions” and Dr B P Singh, Former Chairman In-Charge and Technical Member Patents (IPAB), gave a talk on the Topic “Patenting System in India and Abroad” and interacted with the participants for over 2 hours.
